When Katie came to visit last April, she inspired me in more ways than one! This little inspiration came from her purse, which I fell in love with at first sight. Her sister had made it for her from - you guessed it - a placemat! After my careful inspection and way too much time devoted to figuring out how she did it, exactly, I gave myself a challenge to make one.
They really could not be easier to make (I think each one took me a half-hour), and are very inexpensive. However, I did not plan on the oodles of time searching for the perfect, purse-worthy placemat, with matching ribbon. I ended up finding the placemats at World Market, on sale, and the ribbon was from the dollar bin at Michael's. Here are how my first ones turned out; my fave is the one with orange flowers. I've used it a few times and it's perfect for when you're out, sans kiddos (not a lot of room in these for diapers, toys, goldfish, etc.). Now it's up to someone to stop me from buying cute placemats! Thanks for the inspiration, Katie!

Those are so stinkin' cute!!! I'm sending my sister this post. Hey, you will definitely be doing a how-to for Heidi and I this weekend!
Anjuli and I made a few of these purses last week while I was in WA. I have yet to put the straps on them but so far they were easy and turned out cute. I am going to teach the Activity Girls in my ward how to make them for scripture cases. Cute and the perfect size, plus oh so easy! Thanks for the idea.
Cute idea!
