The First Snow

To our surprise, the weatherman was actually right for once and we got six inches of the white shroud today! We were so happy that we had put up our little Christmas lights the night before. Don't they look like something out of a disco room, shining through all of that snow?

Parker awoke and asked, "How can it snow when it's not Christmas yet?" I think he's seen one too many Christmas shows where snow is the integral part of Christmas day.

Luckily Peter survived his commute, and the boys and I had a fun time playing outside. Tyler was thrilled to wear mittens on his hands and grab at the snow, but didn't quite take to the taste of it. Parker and I made a "baby" snowman, as this snow was not conducive to sticking together (we miss the snow from the west)! It was way more of a workout than I was expecting today to bundle and de-bundle the kiddos and I three times over, and build a snowman to boot! I think I need to watch Rocky IV again and get some inspiration from those Russian training sessions!

The Snowman and the one w/the Christmas lights are my favorite pics.

What cute pictures! I love the sparkle effect too.

I agree with how much work it is to have snow on the ground. I remember doing the same thing several times a day with you guys and the day care kids! Dressing and undressing and drying out all the shoes, coats, mittens etc. by the fireplace and on the heaters! It seemed like as soon as I had everyone bundled up and out the door, you all were too cold to play anymore and wanted to come back in. Then as soon as your things were dry, you wanted to go out again! It makes me tired just remembering! Have fun!

Jealous! We have a few flurries yesterday and I was so wanting them to stay and last a while on the ground. It's amazing how the kids refuse to play outside when it's cold unless there is snow! However, I'm tired just thinking about having tobundle them up over and over again! Enjoy.

Thanks for posting your books on the sidebar. It's always fun to see some new Christmas ones - I'm going to check the ones we don't have / haven't heard of out of the library!

It looks like you had a lot of fun we are jealous! We are also doing the one book a night! One book we got this year that we all thought was cute was called "My Penguin Osbert" by Elizabeth Cody Kimmel.

I agree with Mollie, the front part of your house looks so festive and warm! Very inviting! The kids (Parker looks so grown up!) look like they are having a fun time in the snow! Good for you Mom to brave the cold, wet and pure exhaustion! Can't say that I miss it...but I know my kids do! They'll get their fix this January when we'll be taking a church history tour and Utah vacation!
Oh, yeah, love the Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree! Funny, cuz that just happened to be our book last night too!

Such great pictures of the boys playing! I agree with the others--"mad props" for bundling and debundling. I'm glad that resuts were a cute snowman and happy kids! When we got our snow, I got sick, but was determined to take the girls out. it didn't work until 5pm (it was totally dark), and two seconds in, Vanessa took a spill. It wasn't meant to be for us...

First off, you posted this at 11:45 last night and already have 7, now 8 comments by 10am! HOLY COW girl, you are popular! Ha!
Secondly, how fun! Love the snow, it just makes everything so Christmasy and makes for fun with kiddies! Enjoy it!

Fun! We just got to play in an inch or so of snow today. Still fun though, especially since we had big, fat snowflakes falling at the same time. All that bundling and de-bundling is worth it!

I laughed out loud when I read about the bundling. We had our first big storm on Dec. 1, and it took me over thirty minutes to get all four girls and myself ready to go out. Then, after about two minutes, Ellie asked if we could go in and have some hot chocolate. I believe my words were something like "No. We are going to stay out here for at least as long as it took us to get ready, and it is going to be fun." We ended up staying out for almost an hour before Jack Frost was nipping at their noses and wrists where the gloves kept coming off!

This looks positively beautiful!! I love the cheery view of your place with the snow and lights. Looks like so much fun! I am totally jealous. Last year we got one ice storm which the kids played in, but Texas is not really known for its snow. Love your tradition of Christmas books. I'll have to check out a few of those.

I totally thought the first picture was from a magazine or something--had to look at it 3 x!! Very cute, as usual :)

Wow! I wish I lived in Ohio!!! That snow looks like so much fun! It certainly does take some oomph to get those little ones all bundled and unbundled...not to mention yourself. You always take such good candid shots of the boys. Please teach me! Those make some of the best scrapbook pictures, etc. I remember when you guys picked out those lights to go on the bushes. I feel such a part of your celebration! ;) It looks so nice with the snow. Nice timing getting them up right before. And I love that you can see the tree through the window. Perfect! Merry Christmas!!

I love these pictures. The boys were so excited to see the snow! But Michelle forgot to include that she also got up early that morning and secretly went out in the cold to scrape the snow off the car and warm it up so it would be ready for me to go to work. She is amazing!

Such fun pictures and you are so internet savvy having them in such cool slideshows. I just showed Andrew the blog and I don't think he quite put it together before--maybe just thought they were regular photos...anyway...He thinks it is SO COOL that you have a website! When I told him it's your website he kept saying REALLY!?? They have their OWN!?
