Fab Fourth

"Happy Birthday, America!" This is what we heard Parker say all day long yesterday. He wondered where the cake was.

No Fourth of July is complete without a Tornado Warning. We entered the store yesterday afternoon, leaving behind beautiful, sunny skies and emerged an hour later to find menacing storm clouds. Peter then ran into another store while I drove the kids through McDonald's to get a drink. While handing my money over at the drive-up, we were alarmed to hear the tornado siren suddenly blaring! We grabbed our drink and zoomed back over to Peter, who was running around with other customers in the parking lot, trying to decide where to go for shelter. Thankfully, the siren stopped and the warning was called off as he got in the car. We later learned that there was a funnel cloud spotted almost exactly over our house, but nothing came of it. Phew!

Bring on the rain...our plans for an outdoor BBQ at a friends' were changed to an indoor party, which proved to be equally fun.

The biggest threat from the rain was that our annual trek out to GR's fireworks show would be cancelled, but happily the rain stopped just in time! The show was better than ever, since he is now a "licensed" pyrotechnician. Tyler loved it, exclaiming "Wow!" at every pop. Parker even watched a few, after repeatedly asking "Is it over yet?!" We enjoyed hanging out with friends, doing sparklers with the kids and sipping root beer floats. Good times.

Sounds like you had an all american 4th of July! That's scary about the tornado warning!!! I'm glad it wasn't too serious! I guess you needed one last good scare before you move!

Parker and Vanessa should get together and build a bomb shelter to hide in on the 4th...she was totally freaked out. Glad you didn't get blown away.

Love the picture of Parker holding his ears, just like his uncle Matt was at that age!

It sounds like you had a full fun 4th! I'm glad you didn't let the rain stop you (the good ol' NW teaches you that!). The picture of Peter and Tyler watching the fireworks is cute. It seems like the 2nd's (Nicole and Tyler) had more fun than their older siblings! Maybe Parker will like them better in Utah (hint, hint).

Great Independence day photos! Freaky about the tornados though. It reminds me of the movie "twister" after watching it in the theater (in WA) I looked up at the sky and the clouds looked weird and I was like oh no maybe it's a tornado. LOL. Sometimes I get a little too much into movies. I love the picture of Parker covering his ears, he looks so cute!
